This week album review we will be taking a look at yet another controversial rapper. 6ix9ine also known as Tekashi 69 or even just Tekashi, he is rapper coming out of New York. A disclaimer right off the bat, I am well aware about his controversial past, I know what has happened in the past but I'll be talking about the music that he has released and thats it. Anyways moving on to his debut album/mixtape which he released on February 23 of this year, "Day69". Leading up to the release of this album Tekashi had dropped 3 singles throughout 2017 which gave him good traction and hype. Those tracks being "GUMMO", "KOODA", and "KEKE ft. Fetty Wap & A Boogie wit da Hoodie" respectively, At first listen Id say he was 2 for 3 on those singles being the first two. Now getting to the album/mixtape itself we see a an 11 song project with a run time of 27 minutes which is short in my opinion. We see those tracks that I previously mentioned plus features by Tory Lanez, Young Thug, and Offset. When looking at the track listing one would be confused on who named those songs as it seems as like a child named these songs, song names like "DOOWEE", "BUBA", "CHOCOLATE". Getting to the songs themselves, well getting straight to the point its nothing that really caught my attention. Lyrics wise he is really talking about the same exact stuff in every song and it just gets boring when thats all that he is rapping about. I think the only upside to this project is honestly the production as it has banger beats, such in songs like "Billy", "KOODA". Most of the songs have that distorted base production that sounds alright but again is just gets repetitive. While I found a couple songs on here that are a good listen maybe for like gym music to hype you up but besides it that pretty much it, thats why I wouldn't really recommend this to everyone. Only if you are into hard bangers, with distorted base and a lot of screaming. Not even the features could save this project, yet after all that I have said there was a point where he had some of the songs off the project that were on the billboard top 100. So maybe whatever he's doing, he's probably doing something right.
