Life of a Dark Rose

This week album review we'll be looking at "Life of a Dark Rose" which was released on January 10th of this year. By up and coming rap artist Lil Skies coming out of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. Skies riding off the hype and success of his breakout hit single that dropped on October of last year with Red Roses ft. Landon Cube. He was leading up for his debut album by releasing songs such as Lust and Signs of Jealousy. Which didn't do as great as the aforementioned Red Roses track. But nonetheless both tracks are pretty good. Getting to the album itself it comes with good track listing of 14 songs with only 2 features by Landon Cube. Right away from the start first track,Welcome to the Rodeo is a banger gets you hyped for the album. Which shows what the album has in store. Overall dope tracks that I personally like would be Boss Up, Strictly Business, Big Money and especially Nowadays ft. Landon Cube. Which I would say is Lil Skies second breakout hit. I do got to admit I am a fan of his work especially his come up seeing old videos and music. I can't remain a stan and take in everything, because the album does has its issues. While the album has its moments I gotta say that some of the songs you can say sound repetitive in a way, for example the flow in Red Roses and Strictly Business is oddly familiar, but the instrumentals are what make them separate from each other. I also have to add the fact that there are some tracks that aren't necessarily sad songs but songs that aren't of the same vibe as the other banger songs. These slow and chill songs being Garden, Cloudy Skies, Lettuce Sandwich and Kill4u. Honestly these songs could've either been taken out or moved around in place throughout the album. All in all its a pretty great listen in my opinion, Ive been listening to ever since it came out and Im still jamming out to it. I believe he's finally made it he's been a on grind for years now so I'm glad he's finally getting the recognition he deserves. And maybe who knows seems likes he's XXL bound for this years 2018 Freshman List. I'll be highly surprised if he doesn't make it on the cover of the magazine, but I'll just have to wait and see.

  1. I recently found out about Lil Skies because he appeared in one of adam22's vlog. Adam is the creater of no jumper which is a underground rap podcast. You should check it out on Soundcloud or youtube. This whole week i've had this album on repeat. The songs that never gets old are "Welcome To The Rodeo" or "Red Roses". I bump them if I want to get hyped.
