This weeks album review, we will be taking a look at an rising, up and coming Indonesian rap artist formerly known as Rich Chigga, now going by the name Rich Brian. With his debut studio album Amen which was released on February 2, 2018. A first look at the album you can see that the track list is sitting at a good amount with 14 tracks. With not a lot of features which is not surprising seen as though it is his first project. The stand out feature that we do get is by Offset, one third of the rap group Migos in the song Attention. Leading up to the release of the album Rich Brian had dropped 2 singles to hype up the album those songs being Glow Like Dat and Chaos respectively. I do have to admit that I was surprised when I didn't see the track Crisis ft. 21 Savage that was dropped last year, It would've fit in perfectly within the album. Now to the album it self, the tracks throughout you get a combination of chill vibes and turnt vibes, because not all the songs are your typical turn up songs of with loud bass, bangers as others artists out there. Thats not a bad thing though. Its a nice listen to have in the background to kick back and relax with tracks like Cold, Introvert ft. Joji and Flight. Some standout tracks with faster instrumentals that I enjoyed I'd say in my opinion would be Occupied, Attention ft. Offset, and Chaos. Overall as you listen to the album you can hear how genuine Brian really is, how he is still on the come up and how he is getting used to his rise in fame. Seen as though he is 18! which is crazy to think about, I believe he's got a big future a head of him. We'll get to see how he went to a sort of internet meme at first to a worldwide sensation.
P.S. I don't watch The Office but there is a spoiler to the shows ending at the very end of the album. Which was pretty random...

I've been following Brian since he was on vine with his odd skits. He definitely has a persona that he displays to the public. He is the type of person who isn't afraid to be different someone like Tyler the creator. Back to his new album drop I was a fan of it and thought it was spaced nicely. Each song had a different feel to it. Out of all fourteen songs on the album I had chaos on repeat due to it being a banger.
ReplyDeleteI never heard from this guy before. I don't technically know many musicians. To that too I don't know how the music company works either. Since you mentioned your blog today in class I though it could be cool to get a bigger picture of music from someone else's perspective. From the picture alone I can tell that this guy is very unique and courageous for wearing a babe blue fluffy coat with those retro glasses. Personally I would never wear such a coat but the glasses are pretty cool. Also I see what he did there with his out fit, color matching is the way to go. I don't know if I would ever listen to this guy since I'm not really a fan of rap but who knows.
